HOUSE OF CARDS (2007)

These images are from a series of twelve photographs based on the idiom of a house of cards and depict abandoned structures in various environments. The metaphor a house of cards is used to describe a tenuous situation on the verge of collapse or failing. The project was a response to the uncertain social and historical moment of the economic crisis fueled by the sub-prime mortgage collapse. The project also references the tenuous relationship between the natural and built environment- particularly in Southern California.
